In this video lesson, I show you how to play the harmony for Minuet in G major (BWV Anh. 114) by Johann Sebastian Bach. Our arrangement includes a harmony part that can be played on both the mandolin and the octave mandolin. I will show you both ways in this video. It is a delightful duo arrangement to play and a lovely introduction to classical and Baroque music.
This piece was originally included in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach (1725), which JS Bach presented to his second wife. The piece has long been attributed to JS Bach, due to its inclusion in the Notebook, but was actually written for the harpsichord by a contemporary of Bach's, Christian Petzold.

Here is a mandolin duo arrangement of the Irish tune called Wren's Nest. This jig was written by the great fiddler Frankie Gavin of De Dannan. I
included an octave mandolin accompaniment, and we are using some powerful chord voicing suitable for Celtic rhythm playing. The chords used are Em, A, G, D in different inversions.
The accompaniment can also be played on the mandolin or Irish bouzouki. My tuning is GDAE.

In this video, I show you how to play the chords, rhythm, and accompaniment for “Tremology.” The octave mandolin adds a nice touch to the back up your mandolin, and the beautiful sound of the two instruments perfectly melts together, and the way they blend is just like coffee and cream, or vanilla and chocolate.

In this video, I show how I play the octave mandolin accompaniment for Murphy’s Hornpipe. It’s a traditional Irish tune I learned 17 years ago but still love to play it.
For this accompaniment, I focus on playing a strong baseline.
It suits this tune well with its forward-moving chord changes.
At the end of the video, I show you how to play the accompaniment on standard mandolin, and the chord voicings I prefer for that.

This Italian Folk Dance is the tarantella associated with Naples. It is familiar to many viewers of popular media as a stereotypically "Italian" musical riff or melody.
